Two Naxalites with country-made rifles have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, close to Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, police said today.

Bhudhari Singh Baiga, 40, and Kailash Baiga, 35—both tribals—were arrested along with two country-made rifles while they were attending a local meeting of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) near Mataghat region under Lanji police station yesterday, Balaghat superintendent of Police HC Mishra told PTI on phone today.

He said that some other persons at the meeting managed to flee, adding that a hunt has been launched to arrest them in the thick forests of Lanji area.

Mishra said that these persons of Balaghat district were members of local Malajkhan Dalam and they (police) have been getting information about their activities for some time.

He said that the duo during interrogation have given some vital informations about Naxals' activities in the region.

The SP said that the police will produce the two Naxals in a court today and seek remand to quiz them further.
