SRINAGAR: In a renewed offensive against militants, the army has killed two top Pakistani militants of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba in the Bandipora area.

Defence spokesman Lt Colonel Vijay K Batra, said based on specific information the army cordoned off Mir Moholla-Aargam in Bandipora on Thursday night and launched an operation to hunt down the militants. "The militants were challenged, but they tried to flee. In the ensuing encounter, the two militants were killed," he said.

Lt Col Batra said based on documents recovered, the militants had been identified as Mohammad Imran alias Abu Muslim Zarar and Abdullah alias Lahori.  "Both of them belonged to Lashkar-e-Tayiba and were residents of Pakistan. Two AK-47 rifles with eight magazines and 240 rounds have been recovered."
