The dumper driver, instead of stopping the vehicle, kept on driving and one of the victims was dragged for a few metres by the vehicle on August 5, they said.

The deceased were identified as Sultanpuri residents Umesh and Sanjay. They were returning from Chhattarpur on a motorcycle when the accident occurred, the police said.

The driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

Before hitting the bikers, the dumper rammed into a cab injuring its driver, the police said.

After the police were informed about the incident, the injured persons were rushed to a hospital where the two bikers were declared "brought dead", they said.

When they reached near Nanda Hospital crossing, they were hit by a speeding dumper that had also hit a cab earlier.

The injured cab driver, Shameem (40), told police that he was on his way to drop a passenger. The dumper driver first hit his cab, that hit the divider. The driver kept on driving and hit a motorcycle carrying two men, who were dragged by the dumper for a distance.

After a while, the dumper driver stopped and fled from the vehicle.

The police said they are looking for the driver on the basis of the registration number of the dumper.
