Navrangpura police had received seven complaints of fraud amounting to Rs27 lakh by Rana and his accomplices under banner of their firm Dorado Marketing Pvt Ltd. In one such complaint, Haripalsinh Bhadoria, a resident of Bapunagar, had alleged that Chauhan lured him with high returns on investment and made him part with Rs8 lakh in Dorado a year back. In two separate installments, Bhadoria invested Rs8 lakh between February and March 2011.

According to Bhadoria, Rana and his men assured him a monthly return of Rs1 lakh. However, after paying him a first return of Rs1 lakh, the directors stopped payment. Bhadoria waited for several months, but the scamsters stopped taking his calls. After submitting an application to Navrangpura police, Bhadoria hatched a plan to nab the culprits by laying a trap. Meanwhile, the cops had also gathered crucial information about the directors of Dorado Marketing from the registrar of companies.

After arresting Chauhan, cops nabbed Solanki too. However, Zahir Rana, the kingpin of the Ponzi racket, is absconding. “Rana is believed to have fled to Mumbai," said Sarvaiya.
