Malayalam film Twenty20 set to capture ‘thrills and frills’ of the game’s new form

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dhoni's fan following must have increased tenfold after the Twenty20 World Cup win, but it is the popularity of the T20 format which is shooting upwards.

Taking a cue from the rising popularity of the Twenty20 form of cricket, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) is making a film called Twenty20 to raise funds for the association's activities. AMMA president and comedian, Innocent said shooting for the film would commence next month.

"The film is being produced by actor Dileep and is being directed by Joshi," Innocent said on Tuesday.

Dileep has already given Rs1 million to AMMA for the project.

"The film has got nothing to do with cricket even though the name might suggest it. But it is going to have all the thrills and frills of a Twenty20 cricket match," Dileep said.

Around 65 artistes, including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi and Jayaram, will be acting in the movie.
"I won't reveal the story line of the film as I want it to remain a suspense. It is going to be a film on relationships and will be very good," Dileep added.

A major portion of the film's box office collection will be used to create a fund for AMMA and all the actors will be working free.

The movie's script has been written by the Sibi-Udayan duo, who have penned hit films like "CID Moosa", "Runway", "Kochi Rajavu" and "Lion".

"The film's shooting is expected to be over by the end of the year and we are planning to release it in the first half of March 2008," Innocent added.
