Looks like life gave a second chance to 17 passengers who survived the ghastly accident on Thursday morning.

Rahim Vaghela, driver of a truck passing by, and the cleaner Yasin Khan showed presence of mind and immediately called 108 to save lives. The two, with the help of the driver of the ambulance, loaded the dead bodies into the truck and shipped them to Sanand Civil hospital. The accident had left 24 people dead.

Vaghela and Khan, both are residents of Chharodi village in Sanand.

Among the 24 dead, 12 are minors. The other 12 are parents and relatives of the children. “We decided to ship the 24 dead bodies to the hospital in our truck and let the ambulance take those injured to VS Hospital. This way we saved time,” said Vaghela.

The truckers parked their vehicle near the postmortem room and waited till doctors carried out all the procedures. Due to staff crunch at the hospital, Vaghela and Khan stayed and helped the staff in carrying the dead bodies to the postmortem room.

The 17 injured could only be provided treatment because of the timely intervention of Vaghela and Khan.
