In an incident that is bound to raise questions about the system, a government official was found to have held down and drawn salaries from three different jobs for 30 years!
Suresh Ram lived a triple life as an Assistant Engineer in the Office of Building Construction of Kishanganj, the Department of Water Resources in Banka district's Belhar block and in Bhimnagar East Embankment of Supaul. He has absconded after his mind-boggling feat came to the attention of authorities.
In 1988, Ram started off as a Junior Engineer in Patna's Building Construction department, and in the following year, got a letter of appointment from the city's Water Resources Department. The same letter arrived again for the same post, and evidently, they were offers he could not refuse.
It is not clear how efficient he was at his jobs, but he rose up the ladder in all posts. Finally, his multi-tasking was noticed by the Comprehensive Financial Management System (CFMS).
CFMS is a financial management application used by organizations to manage income, expenditure and assets. Details such as the Aadhaar number, date of birth, PAN number, etc. of all Bihar government employees are fed into it. This is how Ram's triple life was caught.
"On 22 July, the Deputy Secretary asked Ram to bring all his papers to the irrigation department but he didn't show up," said Madhusudan Kumar Karna, executive engineer of Kishanganj Building Construction department. An FIR has been registered against Ram in Kishanganj police station.
