The Indian Railways will soon resume operations of the trains that were suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, some sections of the media are reporting that from January 6 onwards, fares of many trains are being increased. Also, reservations of seats are mandatory as this will reduce the congestion of passengers on trains.

However, the Indian Railways on Tuesday said that there is no possibility of a hike in passenger fares.

According to news agency ANI, the Indian Railways said, "Certain sections of media have reported about the possibility of some hike in passenger fares. This news is baseless and without any factual basis. There is no proposal under consideration to increase fares. Media is advised to not to publish or circulate such reports."

In an earlier instance too, the Indian Railways had denied the news of increasing the fare during the festive season.

Train services were suspended on March 22, 2020, owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. In the Unlock phases, special train services were started by the Railways to meet the growing demand of passengers during the festive season.
