Rail services on the Mumbai-Pune Ghat section of Khandala were left affected after the engine of 17031 Hyderabad bound express from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) got derailed on Tuesday afternoon.

As per Central Railway (CR) officials, the incident occurred at around 3.30pm on the middle line between Thakurwadi-Monkeyhill stretch. No passenger was injured in the accident. 

"The engine was derailed due to a boulder that must have fallen on the tracks from the hills in the ghat section. An Accident Relief Train (ART) has already been dispatched from Kalyan," said AK Singh, PRO, CR adding that investigation would be conducted into the incident. 

CR officials informed that due to the incident, rail traffic on the ghat section between Mumbai and Pune is likely to be affected.  Meanwhile the heavy rainfall has already affected rail traffic on the Suburban section of CR as local trains are running with delay of around 20 minutes.
