Many prominent personalities from various fields attended the event; everyone was dressed in traditional attire. Many were in typical Maharashtrian Navaree saree and Pagdi and started the event by hoisting a Gudi at the entrance.

This was followed by the music launch of a movie, which is based on social causes. It is directed by Santosh Manjrekar. Eminent social worker, Baba Amte's son, Dr Vikas Amte also attended the event. "In this busy and hectic life, it is good to know that Thanekars have gathered to have a traditional Gudi Padwa celebration," added Amte. Many cultural events were also organised. "For the last four years, we have been organising this event in Thane and every year we have received a good response. Festivals are meant to be a medium to unite people and we are glad that we have managed to do not only that, but also maintained the traditional festive spirit," says Rohit Shah, one of the organisers.

Meanwhile, Vinayak Prabhu, one of the writers of Surajya and a Thanekar, said, "We have offered a helping hand to Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram, an NGO that works for the welfare of tribals in the district and also to some other organisations that work for social causes. This event was organised keeping in mind the need to increase awareness about our traditional New Year rather than following the western method and partying on December 31."
