Though the news of surrender was doing the rounds since last couple of days, key Central Committee member Sathwaji Sudhakar along with wife Vydugula Aruna, Bihar Jharkhand Special Area Committee member of CPI (Maoist) party today officially surrendered before the Telangana police in Hyderabad. While these surrenders are shot in the arm for the police, it is a big blow to Maoist movement because the surrendered Maoists made some startling revelations.

Sathwaji, who was in the top decision-making body of CPI Maoists, said ``I was vexed with rampant extortion in the party. Most of the top leadership are using the money meant to expand and carry out party activities were being diverted for personal use. No one is accountable. I tried to highlight this issue in the party but was sidelined. Since one year I was in dilemma. Myself and my wife surrendered because there was no option left.''

Sathwaji hails from Adilabad district of Telangana. He joined the Naxal movement first as a courier in 1983. Since then he held various top positions in erstwhile People's War Group as Dalam Commander to present position in CPI (Maoists) as Central Committee Member and also Central Military Commission Member along with in-charge of Bihar Regional Committee till the time of surrender.

On the other hand, Sathwaji's wife Vydugula Aruna, who also surrendered with him started as Dalam Member in People's War Group in 1993. Aruna belongs to Warangal district in Telangana. Before surrendering, Aruna was State Committee Member of Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee. Aruna highlighted the harassment of women cadres in CPI (Maoist) party. ``We have come across many incidents where women members are constantly harassed and are under tremendous mental pressure.''

Though both Sudhakar and Aruna worked in Bihar-Jharkhand area, it was Telangana Police which was able to convince them to surrender. This operation was going on for nearly a year. The Telangana Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy disclosed that lumpen elements have taken over the movement. ``We have found out that it is complete lumpenisation of Maoist movement today,'' Reddy said while adding that ``we will also investigate on the association of Maoist ideologue Vara Vara Rao with Sudhakar as both were close at one point in time.''

As part of the Telangana state policy of surrenders, Sudhakar will get a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh and his wife Aruna will be given Rs 10 lakh. However, both have to face law in the existing cases where both have charge sheeted respectively in different cases.
