The latest news is that Jayalalithaa has filed a defamation case against Vijayakanth now for making remarks against the government in connection with the Chennai floods in December. A report in Deccan Chronicle states that city public prosecutor ML Jagan filed the complaint on Monday before the principal Sessions Court. The complaint states that the DMK leader had made false statements against the state government saying that the Chennai floods were caused artificially.

Vijayakanth's statements were published in DMK party organ, ‘Murasoli’ on February 4. According to the public prosecutor, Vijayakanth’s statement was attributable to the Chief Minister and was trying to defame her.

The DMDK MLAs who resigned from the party are M Arun Subramanian, (Tiruttani), C Arun Pandian (Peravurani), R Santhi (Senthamangalam), R Sundarajan (Madurai Central), T Sureshkumar (Chengam), K Tamil Azhagan (Tittakudi), K Pandiarajan (Virudhunagar), and C Michael Royappan (Radhapuram).
