"Those who have misappropriated poor people's money should be punished whichever political party they may belong to," said Bose, Gardiner Professor of History at Harvard University. Bose, an MP from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency, was talking to reporters on the sidelines of the convocation of Presidency University in Kolkata.

Bose's comment is significant since a number of leaders of his party, including state minister Madan Mitra, a trusted aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and MP Srinjay Bose, had been arrested in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
