Clashes broke out between the workers of the Trinamool Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) during the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections on Saturday . The violence erupted even as all necessary steps had been taken to ensure peaceful polling in 144 wards of the Municipal Corporation.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) had also been pressed into service for aerial monitoring of 900 polling booths that have been identified as sensitive. Over 37 lakh 42 thousand voters are eligible to cast their franchise today.

A total of 1,077 candidates are in the fray. All together 4,704 polling booths have been opened.
