Tihar starts probe into life threat to jailed Commonwealth Games officials

A day after the sensational revelation made by two murder convicts to a Delhi court that they were being pressurised to kill two jailed CWG organising committee (OC) officers, Tihar authorities Wednesday said they were investigating the matter.

The two convicts complained the jail authorities had also provided them with weapons for the OC officials’ murder.

“We will submit our response to the court on December 24,” Tihar spokesman Sunil Gupta said. Gupta asserted that the claims made by the convicts were baseless.

“These are hardcore criminals lodged in high security jail. No weapon was recovered from the jail premises. Their application is a farce. There was no conspiracy,” Gupta said.

Three former organising committee officials have been lodged in the high security ward.

A city court on Tuesday decided to get to the bottom of the claim that they were provided with a pistol and a  knife by jail officials to murder the tainted Games officials.

The undertrials, Nishant and Amit, claimed jail officials had given them a country-made pistol and a knife to eliminate two of the three officials.

They did not name the officials they were asked to eliminate.
In their application before the court, the two said that they were shifted from the ordinary cell to the high security ward where the OC officials were kept.

The duo added that the pistol secretly provided to them by prison officials was later taken back.

CBI believes the disgraced OC officials — TS Darbari, M Jeychandren and Sanjay Mohindroo — have knowledge of money trails in various Commonwealth Games scams and their disclosures can help nail the guilty.
