Tihar jail officials deny reports of former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin's death

Shahabuddin’s lawyer Randhir Kumar said, “He is fine and news related with his death is false.”

Even as reports of the death of dreaded gangster and former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin are doing the rounds, officials at Delhi's Tihar jail have denied the reports. 

Reacting to reports that have been circulating regarding his death, Shahabuddin’s lawyer Randhir Kumar said as quoted by The Indian Express, “He is fine and news related with his death is false.” DG (Tihar) Sandeep Goel said Mohammad Shahabuddin had contracted the virus on April 20 and was admitted to DDU hospital then.

Early on Saturday (May 1), there were reports that Mohammad Shahabuddin passed away at a hospital in Delhi where he was under treatment for COVID-19.

Mohammad Shahabuddin was serving a life sentence for murder. He passed away aged 53 on Saturday (May 1). The news of his death comes just three days after the Delhi High Court directed the Aam Aadmi Party government and the prison authority to ensure proper medical supervision and care of Shahabuddin.
