Tiger Memon still a threat: Cops

Tiger Memon, the silver smuggler from Mahim was the D-gang’s pointsman in the Mumbai blasts, is now a motivational speaker for various jihadi outfits in Pakistan, say officials in the security establishment. Memon, who is a reputed builder in Pakistan’s Karachi, is still considered to be a ‘threat’ to India by law enforcement agencies.

Ibrahim Mushtaq Abdul Razak Nadim Memon alias Tiger, originally a resident of Temkar Mohalla near Dongri, took over his father’s smuggling business in the 1980s, and then shifted base to Mahim.“During the 1992 riots in Mumbai, his Mahim office was set on fire. This set him on a path of revenge. Tiger was the one oversaw the details of transporting the contraband into Mumbai and deployed the men needed to put together bombs and set off explosions,” said an officer connected to the 1993 bomb blast case.

The officer said Tiger was wise enough to flee the country before the blasts took place “He left behind brainwashed youths who had planted the bombs on his instructions. Those who were arrested know Tiger is a temperamental person,” he said.

The officer adds that Tiger earned respect in Pakistan after the 1993 blasts, especially among jihadi groups. He delivered motivational speeches for jihadi groups and radicalise youths there. “He has not gone the Dawood Ibrahim route, but has enough money to live a good life,” he added.

Another senior officer said, “We have provided Tiger’s address, and other leads to Pakistan, but no action has been taken.”
