The body of the animal was found in sludge in a rivulet at Basapura village, said the forest officer S Alawa.

Autopsy led the officials to believe that it died due to starvation, he said.

This is a third tiger death recorded in the district in the last two years.

A tigress was mowed down by a train near Midghat under Budni police station limits in December last year. Before that, a tiger had died after being hit by a train in the same area in May 2015.

These deaths showed that tigers were straying into urban areas in the search of prey due to deforestation in Madhya Pradesh, wildlife activist Ajay Dube said.
