Primary investigations in the matter revealed that the attack on security guards was a consequence of a brawl between NIFT students and local boys at a nearby tea-stall, which both groups frequent in late nights.

At 5.30am Wednesday, some students entered into a verbal spat with one of the boys. Two of the latter's friends joined in the duel, which soon resulted into fisticuffs.

Students, in an attempt to save themselves, ran towards their campus to seek refuge. On-duty security guard Bhushan Tank closed the main gate as soon as they entered the premises.

When the local boys tried to forcefully enter the campus, Tank along with another guard tried to stop them. This angered the youth who started beating up the watchmen. According to police, Tank has head injuries from the attack while the other guard was scaled on his arms.

Working on complaint filed by Tank, Sector 7 police have started search operation for the youth. According to sources, one of the youngsters is son to a DySP. Police, however, have not confirmed this information.
