Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati completes three years in office on Thursday. But neither the BSP nor the government, has any elaborate programme lined up to celebrate the occasion. It is perhaps with a sense of trepidation rather than achievement that Mayawati will look forward to the next UP election due in 2012.Mayawati government is on an emergency makeover drive, but opposition parties are out to use the occasion to slam the Dalit leader on her alleged failures, mainly on the law and order front. Opposition leaders feel Mayawati has not been able to achieve even a fraction of what she could have, considering her government enjoys a comfortable majority in the state assembly.Worried about her party’s sinking image, Mayawati is virtually burning the midnight oil reviewing progress of public welfare projects, especially in Dalit-dominated areas.
