Delhi: Three of a family die as truck turned turtle on their Audi car

Three people of a family died while a three year old kid was injured after an over speeding truck turned turtle onto their Audi car in sector 15 of Rohini on Tuesday night. Police have arrested the accused truck driver.

Three people of a family died while a three year old kid was injured after an over speeding truck turned turtle onto their Audi car in sector 15 of Rohini on Tuesday night. Police have arrested the accused truck driver.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Sumit (30), his 27-year-old wife, his mother Reeta (65). While Sumit's three year old son was injured during the incident.

Police said that the family was returning home from an engagement at around 1 am when the incident took place. Sumit was sitting with his wife in front while his mother and son were sitting on the back seat. 

“We got a police control room call from a passerby informing about a dumper loaded with sand trying to attempt a U-turn at a high speed over turned on the Audi car near ESI hospital. A team reached the spot and rushed the four to the hospital. Three of the four we're declared brought dead on arrival while  the three year old is undergoing  treatment,” said SD Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) .

Meanwhile after the accident, the truck driver managed to escape, leaving his vehicle at the spot. 

“On late Wednesday, Harpal (48) the driver was arrested from his residence in Sonipat. His medical examination is being conducted to  ascertain whether he was drunk at the time of the accident or not," said Mishra. 

Police said that Sumit runs a factory in Narela and used to live with his family in a 4 storey building in Sector 15, Rohini.

According to Delhi Police, last year, a total of 1395 dumpers were prosecuted for violation of traffic norms whereas this year till February 15, a total of 53 dumpers were prosecuted by the Delhi Traffic police.

The data further reveals that last year, as many as 1,28,000 high load and long load of goods vehicle were prosecuted in the city.
