JAMMU: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, including a senior commander of the militant outfit, and a soldier were killed in a gunbattle in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, police said.

Based on intelligence inputs about the presence of a group of terrorists in Gundna area, about 170 km from here, the police and army launched a joint operation on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Singh said: "The cordon was laid Thursday afternoon and the gunbattle began late Thursday night. Three militants later got holed up in a mountain cave and the security forces were able to eliminate them."

"An army soldier was also killed in the gunbattle that lasted nearly eight hours," he added.

"One of the militants killed has been identified as Iqbal Malik. He was a deputy divisional commander of the LeT and had been active for the last 10 years," Singh said.
