While students raised slogans in favour of JNU and Kanhaiya, family of the student leader also expressed their happiness over the High court's decision.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University, which has been embroiled in a major controversy ever since Delhi Police charged it's students with sedition, witnessed massive celebrations after the Delhi High court ordered the release of student president Kanhaiya Kumar on Wednesday evening.
While students raised slogans in favour of JNU and Kanhaiya, family of the student leader also expressed their happiness over the High court's decision.
"This is a victory of truth but the journey does not end here," said Kanhaiya's elder brother. He had spent all day in front of a television set in Delhi offices of Communist Party of India. Kanhaiya heads JNU students union and belongs to the AISF student wing of CPI.
Back at the campus, students cutting across all political groups converged at the Sabarmati hostel and raised slogans against the BJP government and HRD Minister Smriti Irani.
The students also said that they will keep up the protest till the release of Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhatacharya, both of whom are in jail after being charged with sedition.
Speaking to the students, Rama Naga, who has also been charged with sedition and has not joined the police probe said, "Comrade Kanhaiya is not with us and if he wishes he can join the ongoing movement for JNU. When we were marching for Kanhaiya, ABVP laughed at us saying that your leader won't get released. But today's court judgment is a message to them as well.
