There may be questions on the nature of the verdict: CPI(M)

CPI(M) today said that the judgment on Ayodhya title suit required to be fully studied as there may be questions on the nature of the verdict and maintained that recourse to Supreme Court should be the only way to resolve the matter.

"This judgment requires to be fully studied. There may be questions on the nature of the verdict," the CPI(M) said in a statement.

"The CPI(M) maintains that in our constitutional secular democratic system the judicial process which includes recourse to the Supreme Court should be the only way to resolve the issue," it said.

The party also appealed to the people of the country to maintain peace and communal harmony and not to fall prey to any provocations.

In the same vein, CPI national secretary D Raja said since there are certain complicated issues involved, the judgment needs to be studied in depth.

"Since everyone party to the case have committed themselves to accepting the judicial verdict, the issue should not be taken to the street either in joy or in disappointment," he said.

"If anyone feels aggrieved, legal operations are open for appeal. Everyone should think in terms of harmony," Raja said.

Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi, however, said the judgement has already narrowed down the possibility of victory of any party.

"Because nobody is a clear victor at this juncture, both parties have to be reconciled with the fact that they have to live together. There could an out-of-court settlement, it is my gut feeling. Let us see if people are sincere about bringing any amicable solution, there remains a chance," he said adding these were his personal views.

He was responding to a question whether the government should take an initiative for an out-of-court settlement.
