Rao, who held a meeting with ministers and officials on the issue, said a Most Backward Classes Commission will be set up for the welfare of MBCs.

The existing Backward Classes Corporation would continue, according to a release from his office.

Though several programmes and other measures have been implemented since independence, the MBCs continued to remain backward, Rao said.

Funds for MBCs will be allocated in the state budget and spent through the proposed commission.

No independent measures are in existence in general at present for MBCs who are part of the Backward Classes.
