Telangana Liberation Day to be celebrated tomorrow by TRS and other parties faces opposition from various quarters including Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen.

The Telangana Muslim Joint Action Committee (TMJAC), which is however not opposed to separate statehood, but asked the TRS not to celebrate the liberation day as it hurts "Muslim sentiments and reminds them the massacre of thousands of Muslims by the army during the merger of Hyderabad state into Indian Union."

The TMJAC president Mushtaq Malik said the celebrations on September 17 by TRS would foment hatred between Muslims and
Hindus and asked that it should be avoided.

He, however, said the TMJAC will offer floral tributes to ruler of erstwhile State of Hyderabad and those who sacrificed their lives for separate Telangana.

The Majlis president Asaduddin Owaisi warned the state  government about the celebrations falling on Friday.

"It is the government's responsibility to protect the lives and property of Muslims as the Telangana Liberation day and the verdict on Ayodhya title suit is also expected on Friday, which is challenging to the government," he said.

He said Majlis is not in favour of Separate state of Telangana or a United State of Andhra Pradesh but was only concerned about the well being of minorities.

The Telangana Liberation Day is observed to commemorate Telangana region's freedom from the Nizam's rule, one year
after the Independence.
