A 13-year-old boy studying in Standard VIII allegedly committed suicide after he lost a poll to become the Class Representative to a fellow classmate — a girl — and was belittled for the same by other classmates in the Yadadri district of Telangana.

An unknown body, mutilated beyond recognition, was found on the railway tracks near Chityal Railway Station by railway staff on Friday morning. The Nalgonda Railway Police contacted nearby police stations regarding missing persons cases which matched the profile of the body.

It was found that the body was of a boy who had been missing for the past two days from Ramannapet town.

Upon investigation by the Railway Police, it was found that this 13-year-old boy studying at Krishnaveni Talent School in Ramannapet had lost the election of CR to a fellow girl student. Though the deceased lost the election, he was still the second Class Representattive. However, he was allegedly belittled by his classmates for losing the post to a girl.

"It's a clear case of suicide. In our investigation, we came to know that on July 16, elections called 'Model Elections' were held in this school to elect Class Representatives. This boy came second, he told his father about it but was depressed. The next day he was reported missing. We have registered a case under section 174 CrPC," B Achyutam, Sub-Inspector, Railway Police, Nalgonda.

While the school staff is refusing to speak on the issue, child rights activists strongly condemned holding of elections, declaring winners and losers.

"What's the need to give it the colour of an election in a school? How can any school even think of winners and losers? Just imagine the kind of pressure and depression this boy must have undergone. We demand that the school management be booked under IPC 304," said Achyuta Rao, Honorary President, Balala Hakkula Sangham.
