The state government, as one of its poll strategies, is set to honor all the government school teachers appointed after 2013 in the state-level award ceremony on Teachers’ Day on September 5. But teachers in Rajasthan are furious and disappointed over the cut in national award quota by HRD ministry.
Contrary to last year when a total 374 teachers, including 15 from Rajasthan, were awarded national teacher’s award by HRD, only 45 teachers including only two from Rajasthan have been selected for the national award. This year, a total of 153 proposals for the award were sent to the ministry, only 45 including two from the state were finalized for the award, forcing the remaining 108 to raise voice against the cut in award quota. The state government to reap benefits in the upcoming election is felicitating thousands of teachers.
The Centre is humiliating the teachers of the same state by rejecting its teachers for the national award, Dr Rajendra Kumar Nirmal, one of the eight nominees selected by the state government for national award and principal of Swami Vivekanand Model school in Hindoli town of Bundi said.
Unlike last year, online applications for the award were invited and state governments, following scrutiny, sent HRD proposal for 153 teachers including 8 from Rajasthan, he said.
The central government has violated the rules for national award and by reducing state quota for the award, ridiculously attempted to showcase that no quality education is being imparted and teachers are non-performers in government schools, claimed Dr Yogendra Singh Nakuka of Deaf and Dumb school in Jaipur.
Dr Nirmal has also written to the ministry of HRD and PM Modi protesting against the cut in national award quota for teachers and has demanded to confer awards to all the 153 teachers whose names were finalised.
‘All for votes’
By felicitating thousands of teachers appointed after 2013 on Teachers’ Day, the state government wants to make teachers realise that their jobs were bestowed upon them by the state government and in return they should be show their commitment to them by electing the same government, said a teacher.
