BANGALORE: Three teachers of a private school here have been arrested on charges of meeting out corporal punishment to a 11-year-old girl, police said on Tuesday.

The teachers, who were arrested on August 26, denied having beaten Sangeetha, a class six student of Vinoda English school but her classmates confirmed that she had been beaten, they said.

A case has already been registered against the school management on charges of assault and use of abusive words.

The management had secured bail for the teachers, sources said.

The Deputy Director of Public Instruction in his report stated that the injuries sustained by the girl had been due to corporal punishment.

Karnataka State Commission For Women has also issued a notice to the school management and the teachers who thrashed Sangeetha, the sources said.

The school management has already suspended two teachers in connection with the incident.
