Teacher sexually exploits woman in Kashmir

Teachers are supposed to be role models for society. But this one from Kashmir allegedly drugged and sexually exploited a 29-year-old woman for nine years, ultimately driving her to suicide.Police have arrested Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Brakpora, 56, a senior teacher at a local government school, for rape and abetment to suicide under sections 306, 376, 376 B of Ranbir Penal Code. He has been also placed under suspension.In an eerie reminder of the Shopian rape and murder case, the body of the woman was found in a spring at Sherbagh, Anantnag, on December 17.Police said there were no injury marks on the body, but nevertheless ordered a probe after a postmortem. “Dar lured the woman by promising her employment in 2000. Initially, she worked in the school for two months. After that Dar started exploiting her, which ultimately drove her to suicide,” Showkat Ahmad Malik, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Anantnag, said.“Dar’s relations with his family were also strained,” Malik said.
