TDP leaders to meet Pranab Mukherjee to resolve dispute on Telangana

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that a party delegation has to come to Delhi to submit a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee, and to seek his intervention in resolving the dispute over the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

“We have come to Delhi to meet the President, and to apprise him of what is happening in Andhra Pradesh. We are also going to give him a memorandum asking for his intervention to resolve the issue in the state. We are also going to meet some of the national and regional political party heads. We want to seek the support of all political parties and also the President of India,” he told the media.

Earlier on September 16, TDP members staged a protest in Visakhapatnam against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi over the decision to split Andhra Pradesh, and demanded a unified state.

TDP had been protesting against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, ever since the Congress Party agreed to create Telangana.

Earlier, on August 1, legislators from Andhra Pradesh had submitted their resignations as a mark of protest over the Congress' decision to bifurcate the state.

The Congress Working Committee's (CWC) decision to grant separate statehood to Telangana, on July 30, has invited severe criticism towards the ruling party, as the timing of the announcement comes crucially close to the 2014 general elections.
