"In spite of hectic election campaigning by Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and other BJP leaders, the party just managed to cross the half-way mark in Haryana. In Maharashtra, the BJP did not get a simple majority," Gogoi tweeted. "Is it a wave? Or is the wave on the wane?" he asked.

The BJP secured 47 of the 90 assembly seats in Haryana and 122 of the 288 seats in Maharashtra, wresting power from the Congress in both the states.
