According to a report in The Hindu, the owners of the quarry made a human sacrifice of two mentally challenged persons in 1999 and buried them there. The police recovered the bones with clothes draped around them and sent them to forensics.

It is yet to be determined whether it is human sacrifice, say the police.

Legal Commissioner, U Sagayam, who was appointed by the High Court for the investigation of illegal granite mining in Madurai, ordered the exhumation of the bodies.
