Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who is the AIADMK general secretary, had announced the list of 227 candidates who will contest the upcoming assembly elections, a few days ago. But since the announcement, some candidates have been replaced. There were complaints that old-timers and those who were deserving had been overlooked which has prompted her to change change some candidates.

The Hindu reports that former Health Minister S. Semmalai, former MP O.S. Manian and important people like party spokesperson C.R. Saraswathi and Madurai Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa have now been included in the list. S Semmalai will contest from the Mettur constituency while O.S. Manian will contest from the Vedaranyam constituency. 

AIADMK’s spokesperson, C.R. Saraswathi, has been given the Pallavaram constituency, and according to the daily, she replaces C.V. Elangovan, chairman of the Pammal Municipality. He reportedly had been seen hoisting the National flag while speaking on his mobile phone. This photo went viral on social media after he was announced as a candidate and it could be the reason he was removed, adds the report. 

Madurai Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa will now contest from Madurai (north) constituency in place of M.S. Pandian. Saraswathi Rangasamy, chairperson, Tamil Nadu Child Rights Commission, has now been replaced by B. Sathyanarayana alias T. Nagar Sathya, a member of the Chennai Corporation’s Appointment Committee. S. Kamaraj from Mannargudi, N. Murugumaran from Kattumannarkoil (Reserved), S. Pounraj from Poompuhar, and A. Nanjil Murugesan from Nagercoil all find themselves in the revised list, added the daily.

There was an AIADMK district secretaries meeting held on Wednesday where they were given tips on how to tap first-time voters and how to work together to win the polls.
