Tamil Nadu: Five girls drown in village pond in Dharmapuri on Thursday
The heavy rains over the last few days in the district had increased the water level in the pond which they didn’t seem to be aware of.
On Thursday, five young girls including twin sisters drowned in a pond in Dharmapuri. Apparently, there were washing clothes in the slushy pond.
The 14-year-old twins had gone with seven other girls to the pond near Nalrampatti village states a report in Deccan Chronicle. They were washing clothes and playing in the pond. All of them were between the ages of 11 to 14. The heavy rains over the last few days in the district had increased the water level in the pond which they didn’t seem to be aware of.
The report adds that one of them jumped into the pond and was dragged down by the slush. Four more girls jumped in to save her but they too drowned adds the report. The other girls ran to the village to call their relatives but these five girls could not be saved.
