With the power shortage in Karnataka and people in the state facing severe power cuts, CM Siddaramaiah had stated that they would be buy power from Tamil Nadu. However, the Tamil Nadu state government is said to have immediately invoked Section 11 of the Electricity Act which prevents sale of power outside the state.

A report in a leading daily states that the lack of a power corridor in Karnataka and the massive shortage has had the state government look for alternatives. CM Siddaramaiah was planning to buy power from private generators in Tamil Nadu but now that is not possible with the decision by Tamil Nadu.

The states of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are said to be self-sufficient as far as power goes. Tamil Nadu also buys power when required.
