An AIADMK councillor in Madurai was allegedly stabbed to death by three persons including an aide on Sunday night, reports The New Indian Express. According to the police, K Vijayaraghavan (41), the 51st ward AIADMK councillor, was standing in front of a tea shop at 8 pm on the Munichalai Road at Ismailpuram. A man, who was allegedly his friend came to him, took a knife from under his shorts and stabbed him.

The man then fled the scene along with another man. They reportedly jumped on to a waiting bike and rode away.

A bleeding Vijayaraghavan was taken to a private hospital which asked that he be taken to the Government Rajaji Hospital. Accroding to the report, Vijayaraghavan died by the time he reached the GRH.

The police have said that the councillor and the accused had spoken and the accused had asked him come to the tea shop to meet him, the daily adds. It's also reported that the two had differences after the councillor had helped the accused's brother get bail from jail. The police have said there is no political motive.

Vijayaraghavan is survived by his wife Nirmala Rani and son Aakash.
