Supreme court panel quizzes judge involved in cash scam
The three-member committee of judges appointed by the chief justice of India to look into the cash-at-judge’s-door scam completed its first round of inquiry on Wednesday.
CHANDIGARH: The three-member committee of judges appointed by the chief justice of India to look into the cash-at-judge’s-door scam completed its first round of inquiry on Wednesday.
The committee comprising Allahabad high court chief justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale, Jammu and Kashmir high court chief justice KS Radhakrishnan and Justice Madan B Lokur of the Delhi high court, questioned Punjab and Haryan high court judge Nirmajit Kaur at whose residence Rs15 lakh was delivered by the steno of a former judicial officer of Haryana.
The committee, during its two-day, sitting, however, has not yet spoken to justice Nirmal Yadav at whose the door was supposedly to be delivered. She has since been on leave.
The matter is being simultaneously investigated by the CBI as well at the instance of the supreme court. It was on instructions of Justice Nirmal Singh that a complaint in the matter was forwarded to the police after the money had erroneously landed at her house.
Justice Nirmaljit Kaur had told the investigating agency that the bag containing money was opened by her clerk Amrik Singh, after which High court chief justice Tirath Singh Thakur and another senior judge was informed.
