"This (summoning of Singh) is political witch-hunting and we condemn it. Singh has been a financial expert and a Prime Minister and is one the most honest men, who is respected the world over. This may result in defaming the image of the country. That is why Congress party has taken a stand and we will fight this battle politically and legally," the state Congress president G A Mir said,

On the PDP-BJP government in the state, the state Congress chief predicted that the coalition government will not complete its full term.

"We can assess that this (the PDP-BJP coalition) is not the long lasting government. We are seeing that its base is crumbling and it cannot go a long way," Mir said.

Referring to their over two months of hard negotiations to stitch the coalition, Mir said "the two parties took a long time in coming together and we were expecting that they would come up with a big agenda for serving the people otherwise the basic ideologies of the two parties do not match.

"But we have not seen anything concrete to say that people will get some benefits. We are seeing that there is more politics than public service. I do not see people getting any benefit from this government as there would be uncertainties," he said.

On his party's stand on the resolutions being moved by independent MLA engineer Abdul Rashid for mortal remains of hanged parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru and release of political prisoners during the upcoming budget session, the congress leader said the party has not decided anything on the proposed resolutions.

"Our Legislative Party has not yet decided anything on it and whatever we decide, it will show up inside the House," he said.

Mir demanded setting up of a screening committee to review the cases of prisoners languishing in different jails for years.

"There should be screening of all prisoners to determine who should be released without any favours. There are prisoners who are languishing in jails for many years without trials. So a screening committee should be formed to look into their cases," he said.

Referring to the General Administrative Department (GAD) circular revoking its earlier order of hoisting state flag alongside the national flag, Mir said it should not have happened.

"This should not have happened. It should be known that on whose directions was the order issued by the GAD and then under whose orders was it revoked," he said.

On the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam on which the Congress created an uproar inside the Parliament, Mir said "why did not the ruling party (PDP) say that it was a routine case and he was released on the directions of the court? Why did they take credit for his release? Once it came out that he was released by the court, there was no opposition as we respect the courts".
