Sugarcane growers have decided to set up their own crushers, even as the deadlock between farmers and mill-owners continued.
The farmers of Shamli, Samalkha and several other villages have placed orders to set-up co-operative crushers, and have refused to sell their produce to the sugarmills till they are paid Rs280 a quintal.
The sugar mill owners have offered Rs180 per quintal, which the farmers have refused.
Sugarcane growers across Uttar Pradesh have been agitating against the announced State Advisory Price of Rs160 to Rs170 per quintal, with an effective hike of Rs25 per quintal, terming it as insufficient.
