With arrested ULFA leaders Sasadhar Choudhury and Chitrabon Hazarika having declared that there would be no talks with the government, the group today urged the people of Assam for calm till it publicly expressed its opinion on holding parleys.

In a brief email statement, chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa said, "There has been a wave of unrest spreading among the people about discussions between the ULFA and colonial India."

He urged for calm till ULFA publicly expressed its opinion on holding discussions with the government.

"Till our opinion on the issue is not publicly announced, we urge all the people of Assam not to be agitated," Rajkhowa said.

ULFA 'foreign secretary' Sasadhar Choudhury and `finance secretary' Chitrabon Hazarika, arrested in Bangladesh, had said on November 7 that the group "would not go for peace talks".
