NEW DELHI: In a bid to provide organised, integrated and accessible emergency services, many states are signing up for 108.

First to be implemented in Andhra Pradesh, the new emergency number is the central helpline for medical, police and fire emergencies.

Conceptualised by the emergency management and research institute (EMRI), 108 would be also used in 10 other states soon.

Three states are presently using the toll-free number — Gujarat, Andhra and Uttarakhand. EMRI has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and MP.
