Opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Uttar Pradesh government and the university authorities to apologise and restore the students' admission without delay. "When cheering, clapping of VVIPs like PM Manmohan Singh or UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the Pakistan team doesn't come under sedition, why should only poor Kashmiri students face the brunt?" said PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akthar.

Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP), led by architect of Save Afzal Guru campaign, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed or Engineer Rasheed, has threatened to launched a statewide agitation if the sedition charges are not withdrawn. Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called upon students to protest in Kashmir after Friday prayers.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik too has decided to hold a protest rally and stage a sit-in against "oppressive measures against Kashmiri students in Meerut" after Friday prayers.
