Advocates today boycotted court proceedings in the city and allegedly roughed up policemen during a dharna which was held in protest against "manhandling" of a colleague by three traffic personnel.

Police said members of Gurgaon District Bar Association went on a strike and vowed to continue agitation until action was taken against police personnel, who manhandled advocate Dilbag Singh yesterday for "unknown reasons". The advocates staged a protest outside the district court complex and allegedly manhandled three policemen on duty.

Yesterday, the advocates had allegedly destroyed a video camera of a policeman, who was recording a protest by advocates.

Police lodged three FIRs against over ten advocates on charges of riots, unlawful assembly and obstructing public servant in discharge of duty, deputy commissioner of Police (West) Rakesh Arya said. District Bar president Santokh Singh said the FIRs were "wrong and illegal."
