Sashashtra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel have seized 58 kg of charas worth Rs 9.86 crore from Bihar's West Champaran district late last evening, officials today said.

The smugglers fled from the scene fearing that the police may be approaching them, SSB's 44th battalion Deputy Commandant Anjay Kumar Rajak said.

The SSB team searched a car, which was lying abandoned near near Bhusrari village of the district, and found 58 kg of charas wrapped in plastic bags, Rajak said adding, the seized contraband item was valued at around Rs 9.86 crore.

The car, bearing Uttar Pradesh registration number, has been seized by the SSB, he said.

Both the contraband and the car have been handed over to Bettiah customs office for further action, Rajak said.
