Special court postpones quantum of sentence in Telgi case to Sept 18

A special court today postponed to September 18, the pronouncement of quantum of sentence to 17 persons convicted in the multi-crore stamp paper scam, including its kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi.

Special public prosecutor BR Nanjundiah today submitted before the court that the "offence is not against any particular individual, family or any firm but against the state and the country. It is a case that has affected the financial position of the country and this has to be kept in mind while pronouncing the quantum of sentence".

The case must be a deterrent to all those who involve themselves in such anti-national activities, he said.

The judge Chandrashekhar Patil then posted the pronouncement of sentence on the 17 convicted to Sept 18. 

The conviction of all 17 accused is with regard to a case registered in Madiwala police station here in 2001.

Telgi has been convicted 46 cases across the country, including seven in Bangalore.
