VADODARA: Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to visit Gujarat in the middle of October for launching the party's poll campaign in the state, Union Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela said on Sunday.

Her programme is being finalised, Vaghela told here during a personal visit to the city.

Sonia's visit to the state assumes significance as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had attacked her for rise in prices of essential commodities and also for the Centre's not allocating funds meant for the state's development.

Without naming Gandhi in connection with Ramsetu project, Modi had said "it's a war between Ram and Rome and Ram will emerge victorious."

It may be recalled that during her last visit to Mehsana on May 31st, the Congress President had come down heavily on the Modi-led-BJP government for its "poor" record on law and order front alleging that women were not safe in the state.

Even the conditions of farmers are bad and that had led them to commit suicide in the state, she had charged.
