Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed the Congress party during his address in Lok Sabha saying that there are some people who feel only a handful of names contributed to national development.

PM Modi was replying to the motion of thanks on President's address in Lok Sabha. It was his first address since BJP-led NDA returned to power after a stunning victory in Lok Sabha elections 2019, winning over 350 seats.

Lashing out at the opposition, PM Modi said, "There are some who feel only a handful of names contributed to national development. They only want to hear those few names and ignore others. We think differently, we feel each and every citizen has worked for the country’s development."

"I challenge the government that was in power between 2004-2014 to mention if they ever praised work of Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Did they ever speak about good work of Narasimha Rao Ji? The same people did not even speak of Manmohan Singh Ji in Lok Sabha in this debate."

PM Modi said Congress never praised work done by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Narasimha Rao or even Manmohan Singh but his government gave Bharat Ratna to Pranab Mukherjee.

"We don't want to grow taller like you, but remain connected with roots, don't want to disconnect with masses," PM Modi said in veiled attack at the opposition.

He said his government worked on both — welfare of the common man and development of modern infrastructure.

'I know that it takes time to change things which have been existing for the last 70 years. We did not divert or dilute from our main goal. We have to move forward, be it regarding infrastructure or in space," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister on Wednesday will reply to the motion of thanks on President's address in Rajya Sabha.

Earlier on Monday, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had mocked the BJP-led government saying that they won because Modi was a 'very big salesman' while Congress failed to market their idea.

Speaking on Jharkhand lynching episode, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad mocking BJP's 'new India' asking it to keep it with themselves and return them the 'old India' where there was no lynching, hatred.
