Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday batted for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath by calling him a crusader who brought dreaded disease like encephalitis prevalent in eastern Uttar Pradesh on the discussion table in Parliament. He called opposition attacks on Adityanath government as unfortunate and a false perception building not rooted in reality.

Sharing the stage with Adityanath, who maintains a large contingent of cattle at his Gorakhpur home, PM Modi also took a jibe at a class of people who get agitated on hearing the word "Om" and "Gaaye".

"Iss desh ka durbhagya hai ki kuchh logo ke kaan par agar 'om' aur 'gaaye' shabd padhta hai to unke baal khade ho jate hain, unko lagta hai desh 16th shatabdi mein chala gaya, aisa gyaan, desh barbaad karne walo ne desh barbaad karne mein kuchh nahi chhoda hai. (It is unfortunate that in India there are some people whose hair go up when they hear the words 'om' or 'cow'. They think country nation has gone back to the 16th Century. Because of such knowledge, people who want to destroy the country have not left anything that to destroy the country," PM said.

PM Modi was speaking at a function to inaugurate a clutch of programmes like 'Swachhta Hi Seva' Programme 2019, National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), & National Artificial Insemination Programme in Mathura. He also launched 16 projects of Uttar Pradesh government related to livestock, tourism and road construction.

The new scheme under National Animal Disease Control Programme, with 100 per cent funding from the Centre (Rs. 12,652 crore) for a period of five years till 2024, aims at vaccinating over 500 million animals to completely eradicate foot and mouth disease and Brucellosis in cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats and pigs buy 2030.

During the course of the day, PM Modi also met women who pick up plastic waste from garbage in the city and extended a helping hand to them by sitting and segregating plastic. The aim was to give message to the people to completely eradicate single-use plastic waste from the country under 'Swacchata Hi Seva' programme. He explained to them the importance of separating plastic so it didn't end up in the stomachs of cows.

"The environment and fauna have always been significant to India's economic concerns. We can move towards a new, empowered India only by maintaining a balance between nature and economic progress," said the Prime Minister.
