Union Minister Birender Singh on Sunday alleged that some BJP leaders were "against him getting a portfolio in Narendra Modi's council of ministers." "Some party leaders were agitated over me becoming a minister as I had left Congress and joined the BJP ahead the Assembly polls in Haryana last year," he said while addressing a rally at Ghaso village in this district.

The Union Rural Development Minister, said BJP had given him the respect which he didn't receive from Congress during his over 40-years association with the party and he would repay it by strengthening the saffron party's base in Haryana.

Singh praised Prime Minister Modi saying that it was because of him that the BJP was able to get absolute majority in both Lok Sabha and Haryana Assembly polls. He asked the people to inform the government about anyone trying to block development works or involved in scams to ensure graft-free effective governance.

Asking the people to provide proper education to their children and ensure that girls get respect in the society, the Union minister said that any society which fails to respects its women fails in development issues also.
